The Southern California regional chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry will demonstrate the BLM on Saturday, May 22, 2004.

Discovering New Ways to Produce Class A Biosolids: Two Projects Take Different Approaches Using Thermophilic Anaerobic Treatment
WERF research is working to develop low-cost methods that will help both small and large utilities achieve the highest standards for biosolids, Class A pathogen reduction requirements, which will allow jurisdictions the greatest flexibility in distributing biosolids for use as a soil amendment.

Patent-Winning Biosolids Process Achieves Class A Requirements
EBMUD is in the process of field implementing a low-cost, novel process to produce Class A biosolids through thermophilic anaerobic digestion.

New Collaborative Projects Investigate Sewer Blockages, Odor Reduction, and Nutrient Removal
WERF is developing three new targeted collaborative research (TCR) projects in response to strong subscriber interest. The projects will investigate tools to control blockages in sewer systems, processes to reduce biosolids odor, and technologies to achieve low nitrogen and phosphorus effluent levels.

BLM for Copper Could Save Dischargers Time, Money
WERF recently hosted a briefing in which researchers and U.S. EPA presented information to several water quality organizations on revised ambient water quality criteria for copper using the biotic ligand model.
