REPORT DESCRIPTION: |
This research addresses the formation of nitrous oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas that’s formed in wastewater treatment biofilm processes. The research primarily relied on mathematical modeling, but also included lab-scale experiments and field campaigns at full-scale treatment plants. Since accurate model development takes many years to reach the goal of a fully reliable predictive model that provides value to treatment design engineers and operators, this research provides a theoretical underpinning that can support further research on lab, pilot, and full-scale systems.
